8:00 COFFEE and DESSERT with GUEST SPEAKER Billie Best: Becoming Conscious Consumers*

Billie Best is a writer, a new farmer, a community activist, and an advocate for sustainable agriculture. She is also a corporate marketing consultant. For the past several years she has been a grassroots organizer for the Regional Farm & Food Project. She hosts the monthly "Farm & Food Show" radio program on WRPI-Troy 91.5fm. She is a contributor to Northeast Ag Works!, a Kellogg-funded project to develop regionalist farm and food policy innovations. She is on the steering committee of the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group, and she volunteers for the National Campaign for Sustainable Agriculture. She and her husband are restoring a two-hundred-year-old farm in Alford, Massachusetts, raising pastured livestock. She on the Alford Planning Board and the board of directors of the Alford Land Trust. Her writing has appeared in The Natural Farmer, The Cornell Small Farms Journal, Annals of Earth, the Berkshire Eagle, Berkshire Trade & Commerce, Berkshire Homestyle, the Women's Times, and many websites. Currently, she is writing a book about her journey from suit to farmer and how it changed her values.
