Large Scale Figural Sculpture and Painting

SERGEI ISUPOV'S fourth solo of ceramic sculpture and works on paper with Ferrin Gallery focuses on recent large scale figural sculpture and paintings on paper. Widely collected, published and recognized as America's leading figural sculptor using ceramics, in this show he focuses on heads and related paintings for his '09 solo show at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Center in Mesa, AZ. Primarily produced in his studio in Cummington, Massachusetts, the work for this show started during at a three month residency at the International Ceramics Studio, Kecskemét, Hungary in the fall of 07. The exhibit at Ferrin Gallery is the first presention of the work for the Mesa show that will eventually involve over 20 sculptures along with related prints, drawings and paintings.

With the international market attention now turning to Russian art and artists, both present and past, this artist offers an interesting glimpse into the world of pre and post Soviet era art. His background combines the influences from a family history of artists, Soviet era art training first in Kiev, Ukraine and later in Tallinn, Estonia, with experiences gained from 16 extraordinarily productive years in the US and at international artist residencies in Australia, Hungary and Estonia.

His work has been widely collected by both institutions and private collectors and will be shown this September at the new Columbus circle location for the Museum of Arts & Design, in New York in their inaugural show with his artwork, "Mamma", 2007.
