Lenox, MA - Ferrin Gallery announces Teapots Transformed: A Group Show, featuring contemporary teapots as sculptural objects. This is the first exhibition exclusively focused on teapots by various artists to be held in the Ferrin Gallery's newly opened gallery in the Berkshires. Since 1979, Leslie Ferrin, has curated exhibitions of contemporary teapots at museums, art centers and galleries throughout the country. In 2000 she wrote a book on the subject, Teapots Transformed: Exploration of an Object. Ferrin will give a gallery talk and sign books followed by a reception on Saturday, September 21.

Works by local artists featured in the show include the abstract forms in silver by Michael and Maureen Banner, woodfired stoneware based on architectural forms by Mark Shapiro, scenes of travels in Italy painted on porcelain by Mara Superior, and a carved limestone teapot for a garden by Tim de Christopher. Many of the artists in the show are currently featured in the "Artful Teapot", a traveling exhibition of teapots from the Kamm Collection opening next at the Montgomery Art Museum in Montgomery, Alabama in early November.

"In the past 30 years, the contemporary American teapot has become the most significant object of decorative and applied art being produced and collected. Thousands of artists, working in all media, have embraced the teapot, creating individual testimonials to this appealing form", says author, Leslie Ferrin. "With passionate collectors active and now several museums acquiring and exhibiting teapots both within larger collections and as a separate theme, this form continues to develop and draw new interest."
